Description:

Small Shelf Clock with porcelain case of Rococo design. Materials: porcelain; brass; paper (dial). Molded and scrolled borders on facade producing the effect of a heart-shaped body with elaborately scalloped top and integral projecting supports at sides. The front of each support decorated with a hollowed trefoil pattern. Plain back. Recessed circular dial, within heart-shaped area with glass cover set within brass plated bezel or "sash." Case has painted polychrome decoration partly under and partly over the glaze. Scalloped upper edge and outline of trefoils decorated in deep pin,, under the glaze. Remainder of scrolled borders around edges of heart and supports decorated similarly in light pink. Floral sprays in light shades of pink, yellow, and purple, executed over the glaze, surrounding dial and on sides of case. White ground.
Round printed paper dial with arabic hour numerals; steel hour and minute hands differing in design; and seconds dial below center. "NEW HAVEN / U.S.A." printed above center, and "MADE BY THE NEW HAVEN CLOCK CO. U.S.A." at bottom. Removable inset circular cover plated with brass, on back. Projecting through the cover are a winding key, a knob for setting hands and a regulation lever. Painted figure "69" and impressed figures "71", "7", and "6" on bottom of case. One-day brass movement.

Provenance:

Part of a large clock collection (and related materials) including not only clocks made in N.H., but also several made elsewhere, acquired in N.H. by the donor (Charles S. Parsons, 1904-1988) and probably used here. However, no information about New Hampshire acquisition or use provided with regard to this clock.
