Peirce was the son of John Peirce (1746-1814), who managed the affairs of the Wentworths in New Hampshire after the family was forced to abandon their property at the time of the Revolution. The portrait miniature descended to Priscilla Peirce Decker (1918-2014), who sold it to the Society through Ronald Bourgeault.
