- Butter Knife. Silver. Round ended handle, with slightly upturned end. Bend at juncture of shoulder and blade. Knife blade is shaped on both sides of the base; remainder of left side is straight until it curves around to meet the right side; remainder of right side is straight, but slightly scalloped toward the tip. Entire front of handle and stem are decorated with punched and engraved decoration; approximately half of blade is also decorated. Designs on handle and stem include flowers, fruit, and stems, with a punched scalloped edging. A void within the decoration on the handle is engraved with the monogram, "W", in black lettering. The design on the blade is that of a stylized tree trunk, whose branches cross to form a gothic arch; a basketweave pattern fills the arch. The branches end with three large leaves. There are three stamped marks on the back: on shoulder is a bird surrounded with a laurel wreath, under a "D" (for Durgin), all within an oval mark; on stem is "STERLING" in upper-case roman letters, incuse; on stem is "D.LOW.", in upper-case roman letters, incuse.
