Spoon engraved "JAP", possibly for Jane (Ann) Hoit Plaisted (1791-1832) of Portsmouth, NH, who married Oliver Parry Kennard (1786-1870), c. 1818. A set of spoons with very similar engraving (1947.007.23), but dating about 20 years later, may have been made for their daughter, Jane Ann Plaisted Kennard (1820-1916), who married William C. Packer (1812-1871) in 1841.
William C. Packer was the younger brother of James Pickering Packer (1804-1894), donor's grandfather.
Maker's mark of Ira Haselton (1797-1869), silversmith of Portsmouth, NH, until 1834/5.
