- Description:
- Box, rectangular. Paper with colored litho. Lid fits over bottom section. Core paperboard. Core covered with decorative paper with small diamond-grid pattern of texture, small raised bumps with uniform spacing. This off-white paper has series parallel lines. Spacing for lines slightly more than 7/inch. Gold dot in an alternating pattern of rows and columns that don't always line up with the blue lines. This paper wrapped so that blue lines are vertical on the bottom section of box. They wrap around bottom surface slightly as well as interior surface slightly. Bottom corners, mitered on bottom surface where paper meets from one side to other. Cover of box, similarly textured paper. Cover paper, parallel blue triangles, very small, connected together. These create lines that are about slightly less than 4 lines per inch. Geometric gold pattern interspersed with the lines. This paper aligned for the blue lines for the vertical on the sides of the box cover. Paper folds over to inside edge about 0.4". Paper turned over onto top surface. Embossed, gold-tone paper strip about 0.18" wide near edge of top to finish off the wrapped, blue-striped paper. Inside embossed gold-tone strip, colored print which has small white border around it. Print surface glossy with several cracks on gloss. Exterior seam in print. Man and woman facing each other on a path. Behind woman, small child. They are in an area with trees growing over them. Behind the trees is an architectural element, portion of building with 7 tall columns, probably Corinthian. To left in background, bird on square column with plants coming out of top. On far right side, near figures, another bird on column with plants coming out of top. Grasses and bushes to sides. Trees off to distance with small area of open sky. Man standing facing left and slightly to back as if he is addressing woman opposite him. Wearing dark boots, tops folded over, red pants, sword hanging from left side, hanging backward. Blue coat with light-color lining hanging from his shoulder. Left sleeve red, arm hanging down, hand slightly to front. Right arm hanging down holding broad-rim hat with ribbon hanging from it. Hat tan-colored. Some of bushes and trees tan-colored. Woman facing right and slightly forward. Has dark hat with two, light-colored plumes on right side. Low-cut dress, green that leads to her waist. From that is light-colored skirt that hangs to ground. Has two colored bands at bottom. Appears to be cape hanging down behind her. Green-colored, puff at shoulder, then white border below it, then arm sticks out below that and hangs down. From waist, long green robe that hangs down, turned up at bottom by being held by the child behind her. Child facing same direction as woman. Wearing red outfit, short pants, dark leggings or stockings, hat with something hanging off of it at the back. Little white collar. Hands engaged holding up back edge of woman's robe. Figures brightly colored in comparison to the muted trees and building. On inside of cover, parallel brown stains in paper. In bottom section, piece of paper glued to inside that is big enough to cover any contents. This one has old taped adhesive label: "Gift from M H Jewell in 1940" in 3 lines.
