- Description:
- Snuffbox, oval. Steel. Top and bottom domed. Bottom section has curved up sides that are also slightly inward around their edges. Top piece is hinge with a 5 knuckle piece soldered to one edge. Top rests on curved lip of bottom when box closed. Small lip on edge of bottom opposite hinge. Hole in top 0.15" diameter near edge opposite hinge. Must have been some type of locking mechanism utilizing hole. Inside of box, corroded and possibly snuff residues adhered to the surface. Outside box, many, very small scratches, dark due to some corrosion and perhaps some hand grease. Edges of box reasonably smooth from handling and use.
