- Object ID:

- Description:
- Niddy-Noddy. Wood and steel. Medium-brown hardwood. Slight swell in middle of central shaft where it is slightly oval in cross-section. Swell narrows slightly, then turns into rectangular cross-section, which is rather long at both ends. Measurements not precise since no distinct measuring point. Rectangular cross-sections longer than most other niddy-noddys. One of rectangular sections has tenon on end that fits into mortise on cross arm. This is end with longer rectangular section. Cross arm rectangular in center where there is a mortise. Top edge becomes rounded and arm curves down gently then sweeps up slightly at tip. Bottom edge flat and straight. On opposite side, cross arm similar except does not turn up at end, but extends straight to beveled end. One wooden pin through tenon and mortise, a second one missing. Looks like small wooden wedge driven into end of the tenon. At other end of central shaft, rectangular end has tenon that fits into a mortise on cross arm. Cross arm rectangular at center. Top end then becomes rounded, extends, slightly tapers to end which has undercut bevel. Bottom surface flat and straight. Same configuration applies to opposite where cross arm also rounded at top and with straight taper to a undercut beveled end. Bottom surface flat and straight. Near both ends of this cross arm, bottom surface has some chamfering. Style of this cross arm somewhat different from other cross arm. Three nails driven through mortise and tenon. Two on one side, remaining on opposite side. End of tenon at this end of central shaft, slightly recessed and abraded. Hard to tell if wedge driven into this tenon. Red ink paint FP70E on one end of central shaft.
