Plane, molding. Made by David Page Sanborn (1810-1871), Littleton, NH. Medium-brown, fine-grain, hardwood, narrow annular rings on sides. Some grain flecks on left side. Some radial rays on toe and heel. Chamfer starts in a notch about halfway up, extends upward to square, front corner, extends across top edge of plane to rounded, back corner, down side to a notch. Chamfer on right side mirrors that on left side. Top of extension starts at same level of chamfer and is almost flat to right side but has concave top surface. On left side is wide chamfer that runs from front to back. Concave cutting surface. Blade 1.85" wide. Outside edge of blade extends slightly upward and is exposed on right side so it might possibly do some cutting. Depth of cut surface: 0.3". Blade stuck in place. Tang on left side and it tapers in thickness to a square top end. Top end slightly turned over from being struck. Three stamps on toe, vertically oriented facing right side. Top stamp: "D. P. SANBORN". Below it: "LITTLETON'". Below that is a roughly oval outline with small flourish at left and right ends. "N.H."
