- Apple parer, wood, iron, and steel. Mounts on table corner so gear mechanism can turn freely. Small dark brown bulbous handle that tapers to narrow neck, then swells slightly, then has short straight taper to its front end. It is mounted on steel shaft with button end at outside and peened over end on back of cast-iron lever iron which is screwed onto a flat gear. The cast-iron gear has a pentagonal design in center. Drive gear is mounted on a cast-iron frame that clamps to a work surface with a wing-headed screw. Cast iron frame holds an intermediate gear and drive gear and shaft for a three-tined fork to hold fruit. Cast-iron frame also holds a flat gear which holds a cutting mechanism for paring fruit. On cutting gear is a cam that actuates a small steel cutting blade. Initial drive gear also powers another gear which has a cam surface mounted on it. This cam surface pushes against a rod mechanism which forces fruit off tines when fruit pared. Seven gears involved in processing mechanism.
