- Description:
- Hatchet, carpenter's. Steel and wood. Light-colored, oval wood handle tapers slightly to fit through socket in steel head. Wedge driven into handle from top. Octagonal hammer on one side that tapers slightly to wide socket area of head. Hammer face slightly over 1" square. On opposite side of hammer head, metal is thinner; bottom edge curves downward and outward to wide cutting surface. Blade 3.2" wide. Single taper on either side of edge to create cutting blade. Small V-shaped notch approximately 0.3" deep on bottom edge of blade near center; typical for pulling nails. Stamped mark on right side of blade above notch, difficult to read: "GERMANT[OW]N", in rectangle.
