Description:
Mallet. Medium-brown wood. Rectangular shape. Two bottom edges beveled. Bottom surface is slightly concave. Sides flat and parallel. Top surface relatively flat and convex. Ends dished and worn. Doesn't appear that ends were ever parallel. Offset slightly. Hole in center of it from top to bottom, 1.2" diameter. Straight, roughly round cross section handle that passes through body and extends 5.4" out of bottom. It also extends 0.3" from top of body. Ends of three steel nails, perhaps four, driven into end of handle at top. Also evidence of wedge driven into slot or crack in top of handle. Rough tool marks on top and bottom surfaces of mallet. Working surfaces appear to be originally sawn. Also, some marks on one side of mallet where something was struck or struck it. A number of holes in working surfaces from use.
